Data and analytics

It brings ERP data and other sources into a common model, with services such as SAP Datasphere. On that foundation, dashboards and KPIs show what is happening right now, and predictive models help anticipate what comes next.

Development and extensions

It lets teams build apps, portals, and workflows on top of the existing ERP, using SAP Build low-code tools or traditional development. Many requirements that used to turn into ERP modifications can be delivered as extensions, outside the system's core.

Automation and AI

It automates repetitive work such as approvals, reconciliations, reports, and document processing with SAP Build Process Automation. It also lays the groundwork for AI applied to business processes, including Joule, SAP's generative AI copilot.

What SAP BTP is not

It is not an ERP replacement. SAP S/4HANA or SAP ECC remains the system of record for finance, procurement, sales, and production transactions. BTP works around it: it connects the ERP to the rest of the landscape and adds analytics, automation, and new applications without touching the core.

It is not a license to customize more. The platform exists precisely to protect a clean core, which means keeping company-specific logic outside the ERP core. With a core close to standard, upgrades and a future move to SAP S/4HANA become simpler and less risky.

No. SAP BTP connects to SAP S/4HANA, SAP ECC, and systems from other vendors. If you are still on ECC, whose mainstream maintenance ends on December 31, 2027, building extensions outside the core now reduces what will have to be redone during the migration.
